| A Seattle native, Somoza played for South Snohomish County Allemania and Edmonds-Woodway High School, where he was Everett Herald player of the year and Seattle Times athlete of the year in 1998. He played four seasons at Washington, serving as captain and making all-Pac 10 his final three seasons. He was a member of the U.S. national amateur side in 2001. Somoza was drafted by the USL-Division 1 Portland Timbers and later played four seasons for the Seattle Sounders, including their 2005 championship team. Ben also received WIAA 1A State Coach of the Year after Kings HS won State in 2007 and Cascade conference boys HS coach of the year for 2010. |
